DSPs Enjoy Recognition
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) from around the state recently gathered in Columbus Ohio for the 15th annual DSP recognition event organized by the Ohio Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (OADSP). The event honors the hard work and support DSPs give to individuals served. Echoing Hills was honored to be a sponsor of the event.
Those registered for the day were given a T-shirt, bingo card, and either a tambourine, maracas, or drumsticks to use during shout-outs. This year’s theme was Rock Your Role, with a band featuring Brooks Kidd, Maria Faith, and Mckinley Brown – former American Idol contestants. Each artist played covers and original songs. Those in attendance were encouraged to get up, let loose, and explore their creative side by dancing like no one was watching.
Chief Executive Officer of the National Alliance of Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) Joseph Macbeth was the keynote speaker, who explained the value of DSPs and the importance of the career. With forty-one years of experience, he outlined the knowledge, values, and skills needed to be an impactful DSP. As a professional in developmental disabilities, care for the individual is the top priority.
DSPs from each of Echoing Hills’ five regions (Northeast, Northern, Central, Southeast, and Southwest Ohio) won prizes during the giveaways. These prizes included wireless speakers, a blanket, a stadium bag, a massage pillow, and gift cards to Starbucks, Burger King, and Texas Roadhouse.
Celebrating his tenth anniversary with Echoing Hills, Kevin from the Northeast region received backstage passes to meet the three musical artists. He was even one of the raffle winners – talk about a great day!
Program Director of Northeast Ohio, Kim Broadnax states, “The recognition event is important because the event highlights the inner fabrics of one of the important resources regarding client services, the Direct Support Professionals.
