Persistent, Fun, and Approachable – Meet Steve!
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19
After three years of walking through the wilderness of unemployment, Steve was hired as an Activities Assistant. That was 15 years and two roles ago now. Reflecting on those early years, Steve shares, “I loved it. It was like getting paid to have fun!”
Steve has a servant’s heart. With dedication and perseverance, he devoted 18 years to the military. From serving the country to serving individuals at Echoing Hills, Steve went from Activities Assistant to QIDP. Then, approximately 8 years ago, he filled his current role, Program Director in Southeast Ohio.
Looking back on his beginnings in the ministry, Steve says, “If I could have a conversation with my younger self, I would say don’t change and don’t give up. Keep moving forward.”
As a Program Director, Steve helps with the interview and hiring process, leads as a training instructor, handles disciplinary actions, and is a part of multiple committees. But his favorite part of work is establishing relationships with those we serve and having a good laugh.
“I enjoy interacting with the people here. Everyone feels like family, and part of that is because of the organization’s emphasis on Christian values.”
Despite being nervous and not knowing what to expect early on, Steve remains committed to revolutionizing lives today. He has big goals for himself and others this year.
“In my personal life, I want to stay healthy and financially stable. At work, I will continue to take on tasks and create a fun environment for individuals and staff.”
In his free time, Steve enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf. You may also find him partaking in a meat lover’s pizza, listening to country music, or reading something by his favorite author, Steven King. I guess you could say Steve likes Steven!
