Saved and Sanctified

What Does it Mean to be Saved?
Salvation means to be saved and protected from harm. At Echoing Hills, we believe in the power of Jesus Christ, who saved us from the wages of sin. Sin is an archery term that means to miss the mark. First Presbyterian Church states, “The word “sin” in the New Testament is related to archery and means “missing the mark.” You can miss by a little or, you can miss by a lot, but a miss is a miss, and so a sin is a sin.” (para.1).

All who recognize Jesus as their Savior and turn from wickedness are saved from sin.  Forgiveness means to ask God for compassion and to recognize wrong decisions. Repentance involves turning away from the ways that resulted in incorrect choices. Romans 3:23 says, “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Salvation comes through recognizing mistakes and making the decision to surrender to Christ.

What is Sanctification?
Sanctification is the process of being purified and to declare something as holy. This process “is how God transforms a person, making them fit for a sacred purpose. Sanctification includes a change of heart and a desire to love God and others.” (Cru, para. 1). In the filtration process, water is purified by passing through filters to eliminate potential germs and viruses.

The CDC explains, “During filtration, the clear water passes through filters that have different pore sizes and are made of different materials (such as sand, gravel, and charcoal). These filters remove dissolved particles and germs, such as dust, chemicals, parasites, bacteria, and viruses.” (para. 5). Similar to the water filtration process, believers in Christ are purified through filters of testing to be transformed into a mature faith. James 1:2-4 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Trials and challenging circumstances help grow our faith. Faith is given by a God who loves us. Author and speaker Joyce Meyer is known for stating, “Your attitude determines your altitude.” The attitude we have in such circumstances today influences our experience of tomorrow.

At Echoing Hills, we are committed to helping those with intellectual disabilities experience a better tomorrow. Through residential and recreational services, our goal is for individuals to experience the love of Jesus Christ.
