The Power of Being Sent
Serve, Send, and Share – these three aspects make up what it means to go on mission. Believers are charged with the task of serving others and meeting their needs, sending people around the world, and sharing the love of Jesus with all.
Why Should You Go on a Mission Trip?
Mission trips provide new perspectives and practical experiences. Mission Discovery describes, “it will cause you to serve more wholeheartedly and more often since you have seen how serving others can immensely change their lives” (para. 2). Participants also gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for other cultures, becoming more open-minded and loving towards all people (Mission Discovery, 2025). By engaging with others from different backgrounds, individuals improve cross-cultural communication and develop empathy.
As believers in Christ, we are commanded to share the gospel with others who need hope. Matthew 28:19 explains, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (NIV). These verses illustrate the Great Commission, a task originally given to Jesus’ apostles, instructing them to reach the lost.
Serving alongside others during mission trips helps build lasting friendships and deepens faith. Praying Pelican Ministries states, “Go and serve alongside a community of believers and local staff members who will surprise you, help you grow in your faith, and who are excited about developing friendships with you and your team!” These shared experiences support both personal and spiritual growth for everyone involved.
