The Process to Purify

The Echoing Hills water treatment plant has operated since February 2017, thanks to Corporate Maintenance Director Kevin Wakeley. This plant provides water for the Echoing Hills of Central Ohio campus. Coming from two wells, the water filters through a phosphate blend. The wells are on a farm owned by a board member. When the water is used, the pumps kick on to circulate the water through filtration.

There are various solutions to address issues, depending on the degree of the problem. If one of the two wells is lost, water is hauled by a licensed company, re-filtered, and retreated. Limited companies are licensed to haul water because of the risk of impurities and contamination.

Kevin was a part-time subcontractor before committing to a full-time position in 2012. The Echoing Hills team needed to hire an engineer, architect, and drilling company to prepare the water treatment plant.

After this year-long process, a water line connected the wells to the treatment plant. During the beginning stages, twenty-four-hour testing was required for the wells to fulfill Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements. The water undergoes weekly testing for impurities and organic samples. Kevin states, “The testing ensures individuals and staff are provided with clean drinking water.”

Kevin enjoys anything involving the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. He is married with five daughters and thirteen grandchildren. Raising four grandchildren, three girls and one boy, Kevin and his wife have always had small blessings living in their home.

Before his full-time position at Echoing Hills, Kevin owned a heating and cooling company. The current Corporate Chaplain, Donnis Meek, knocked on his door and offered him the full-time position. Kevin’s favorite part of working at Echoing Hills is improving buildings and homes for the individuals we serve.
