A New Lens
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
A sound mind. What a powerful idea. But what does it mean? A sound mind is not full of fear but of love and power – it equals clarity.
Imagine this: you’re driving down the highway on a bright spring morning, the sky is clear, so it’s easy to see the landscape in the distance. But when you leave your destination, it’s completely dark outside. You get in the car, but don’t know what’s in front of you. Then you turn the headlights on. Boom! Light overpowers the darkness.
Spiritual sight is light in a world covered in darkness. Turning to God is like using headlights; it brings clarity and steadiness in uncertainty. This type of sight can be explained in one word: faith.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 Pleasing to God, faith is trusting him when we can’t see how our situation is going to work out.
If you’re an overachiever and overthinker like me, don’t worry! It’s not about how much you think you can build by your own willpower; perfect faith doesn’t equal perfect behavior. We don’t run to our own actions; we go to a perfect Savior.
Jesus, the Savior and Son of God, is perfect. He saw us in our shortcomings and sacrificed himself anyway, all because of love. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Can I ask you a question? What would happen if we saw others just as Jesus sees them? Would the world change? Would YOUR world change?
In his song “Give Me Your Eyes”, Brandon Heath writes, “Give me your eyes so I can see everything that I keep missin’ give me your love for humanity.”
At Echoing Hills, we have a love for humanity. Staff, individual, or family – we want you to feel seen! We’d love to hear your story. Share with us today!
