Happy 250th Birthday, America!
What an exciting time to be alive.
This year, America celebrates 250 years of freedom, opportunity, perseverance, and the enduring spirit of these United States. For nearly two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have worked, sacrificed, served and dreamed; helping shape a nation unlike any other in the world.
What an honor and privilege it is to wake up each day with freedoms many throughout history have only hoped for: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom to choose our own path, and the opportunity to pursue a life filled with purpose and happiness.
These freedoms are among our greatest blessings.
Yet with every freedom comes responsibility. We are called not only to enjoy these rights, but also to respect and protect them for our fellow citizens. The strength of America is not found in everyone’s thinking alike. It is found in our ability to uphold liberty, dignity, and opportunity for all, even when we disagree.
One of the most inspiring things to witness across this great nation is the heartbeat of America – the willingness of ordinary people to show up for one another.
In the book of Genesis, Cain famously asked God, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9). While the question was asked to avoid responsibility, generations of Americans have answered it with their actions.
The answer has always been yes.
We are our brother’s keeper.
It’s seen it in the servicemen and women who have answered the call to defend freedom around the world. Also in first responders who rush toward danger when others are running away. We see it in the linemen who work tirelessly to restore power after devastating storms and in the volunteers who search through rubble and debris, hoping to find one more person in need of help.
It’s seen in neighbors who collect food, water, clothing, and supplies during floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires. Also in communities that rally around families facing illness, tragedy, or hardship. We see it in citizens who peacefully advocate for causes they believe in and stand before lawmakers in pursuit of justice, opportunity, and the rights of all people.
That spirit of caring for one another is woven into the fabric of America.
It reflects the words found in Galatians 5:13: “Serve one another humbly in love.” It reminds us that freedom is not merely about what we can do for ourselves, but also about how we choose to serve others.
For 250 years, our nation has faced challenges, disagreements, wars, economic hardships, and natural disasters. Yet through every generation, Americans have continued moving forward. They have built communities, opened businesses, raised families, served their neighbors, and believed in the promise that tomorrow can be better than today.
America’s greatness has never been rooted in perfection. It is rooted in perseverance.
It is found in the farmer rising before dawn, the teacher inspiring the next generation, the nurse caring for a patient, the factory worker, the entrepreneur, the volunteer, and the neighbor who offers a helping hand when it is needed most.
As we celebrate this historic anniversary, let us reflect on the sacrifices made by those who came before us and renew our commitment to the values that have guided this nation for 250 years: freedom, opportunity, responsibility, service, and hope.
