Running with the Right Crowd
Who you surround yourself with shapes how you grow, how you persevere, and how boldly you pursue what you’re called to do.
Hebrews 12:1 reminds us that we are “surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses” …a powerful image of community. We were never meant to run this race alone. We were created to walk (and run) alongside others who encourage us, challenge us, and remind us of our purpose.
This is especially true when it comes to volunteers.Volunteers are often the quiet strength behind so many meaningful moments. They show up with open hearts, willing hands, and a shared passion to serve. But what makes volunteering truly powerful isn’t just the work being done; it’s the people you do it with. When you’re surrounded by others who are driven by compassion, creativity, and purpose…something shifts. You begin to grow in ways you didn’t expect, and it even benefits you personally.
The right volunteer community will lift you up when you feel unsure, speak truth into your gifts, and gently push you beyond your comfort zone. They help you “throw off everything that hinders” by reminding you why your presence matters. They challenge you to serve with excellence, to think creatively, and to keep going even when you’re tired.
And in those moments of laughing between tasks, solving problems together, celebrating small wins…you realize you’re not just giving your time. You’re becoming part of something bigger. You’re being shaped.
Volunteering also reminds us that the race isn’t about speed; it’s about endurance. Hebrews 12:1 calls us to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” When you’re surrounded by the right people, perseverance becomes a shared effort. You carry one another, find strength in community and connection, and keep showing up.
So, take a moment and reflect:
Who are you running with?
