The Echoing Way: Building a Culture Where Employees Feel Seen, Heard, and Appreciated

At Echoing Hills, we believe culture does not happen by accident. It is built through people, relationships, and everyday choices.

When Echoing Hills established a goal to build stronger relationships across departments, the purpose was clear. We wanted to nurture a culture of respect, trust, and teamwork.

That goal became part of something bigger.

It became part of The Echoing Way.

More Than a Motto

The Echoing Way is not simply a motto at Echoing Hills. It is the standard we have set for our culture.

It reflects who we are and how we serve others, and it connects to our mission of revolutionizing lives where people love, learn, connect, play, and worship. Our core values of choice, dignity, fulfillment, and relationships are also reflected.

Most importantly, The Echoing Way is rooted in our Christian faith.

Echoing Hills helps individuals with disabilities reach their fullest potential through services rooted in the values and teachings of Jesus Christ. But our mission does not happen because of programs alone.

It happens because of people.

Our employees are the ones who bring our mission to life every day.

Echoing Hills provides the foundation. Our employees are the building blocks of our culture.

And this goal was created for them.

Getting to Know Our Employees

Over an 18-month period, each existing and/or new Echoing Hills employee had the opportunity to complete three important assessments.

These assessments helped us better understand how our employees learn, communicate, and feel appreciated.

Learning Profiles

Everyone learns differently.

Some people learn best by seeing information. Others learn by hearing it. Some need hands-on experience to fully understand a new skill.

Learning profiles help managers understand these preferences. This allows training to become more personal and effective.

Instead of asking employees to fit one training style, we can adapt our approach, meeting people where they are.

Communication Profiles

Communication is at the heart of every strong team and communication profiles help us understand how employees prefer to share and receive information.

This knowledge can help teams reduce confusion and prevent unnecessary conflict. It can also help us choose the right communication method for the situation.

Sometimes that means an email. Sometimes it means a conversation face-to-face. Other times, a different communication platform may work best.

The goal is simple: communicate in a way that helps people understand and be understood.

Appreciation Profiles

People also experience appreciation in different ways.

Some employees enjoy public recognition. Others prefer a private note or a personal word of encouragement. Some feel most appreciated when someone offers helpful support.

Appreciation Profiles help us understand what makes each person feel valued.

When we know how people receive appreciation, we can make recognition more meaningful.

This Is Not a One-Time Initiative

This work did not end when the assessments were completed.

It became part of The Echoing Way.

Echoing Hills established a database that allows this information to be updated regularly. Leaders can access the information in real time when they need it.

That means we can use what we learn to address current challenges. We can also develop training initiatives that meet employees right where they are.

This creates an opportunity for something powerful. We can know our people better. And when employees feel seen, heard, and appreciated, they show up.

They bring more of themselves to their work, build stronger relationships, and become more engaged with their teams and the people they serve.

Building the Culture Together

A strong culture is not created by one department or one leadership team. It is built by every person who walks through the doors of Echoing Hills. By learning how our employees learn, communicate, and receive appreciation, we are taking another step toward living out The Echoing Way.

This alignment can boost morale, increase daily motivation, strengthen teamwork, and support employee retention. Most importantly, it reminds us of something we never want to forget: Our employees matter.

The Echoing Way is about creating a culture where people can love, learn, connect, play, and worship. That starts with creating a workplace where our employees can experience those same values.

Because when we invest in our people, our people are better equipped to invest in others.

The Echoing Way is our culture. Our employees are the heart of it. And together, we are building something that can revolutionize lives.

Love. Learn. Worship.
