Camp Echoing Hills – Spiritual Excitement

Camp Echoing Hills Ends Season With Spiritual Excitement
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” –Matthew 28:19

Camp Echoing Hills ended its season two weeks ago; however, we can’t stop thinking about it! It was a summer full of fun, fellowship, and faith. It was a summer of growing closer to God. This closeness was especially true on the last day of camp.

Early in the morning, one camper stepped forward, indicating her interest in baptism. This interest led to a conversation with everyone at camp. Ultimately, three other campers stepped forward, expressing they would like to do the same!

“It was so amazing when that first camper spoke up,” recalls Jimmy McNutt,  Recreational Services and Outreach Director. “She has attended camp for years and felt called this year to become baptized. I was in awe when I saw others step forward as well!” Excited camper holding his nose before being baptized in the Camp swimming pool.

That afternoon, campers and staff gathered in and around the pool. The four campers becoming baptized gathered close by Jimmy as they excitedly waited for their turn. After each baptism, there were cheers, hugs, claps, and sometimes tears.

“It is an experience I will always hold close as ‘this’ is why we exist,” shares Jimmy. “To create opportunities for individuals with disabilities to know and experience Jesus Christ.”

The day ended with the nightly worship service. There was music, a message, and a chance to pray with and for one another. Campers also reflected on what God calls them to do. They shared they are to pray for others, love one another, read the Bible, listen to God, and more. The service was a great way to bring everyone even closer after an incredible summer!

“Camp is about having fun and making memories, but more importantly, it’s about strengthening relationships with God. I feel like we did that this summer! I’m excited to see what the Lord has in store for us next year!”

Love. Learn. Worship.
