Christmas Crafting
Unleashing Your Creativity and Appetite

It is that time of year. The weather is changing, and excitement is growing. Walking into any Echoing Hills program across the state, you will find individuals we serve decorating, partaking in delicious treats, and making crafts!
It is amazing to see the walls of Community Living, Echoing Connections, and EchoingU become transformed. And it is exciting to see the joy and imagination coming from those we serve.
Enjoy these ideas to do at home with your own families – and have fun with the happiness that follows!

CRAFT TIME:
A coffee filter wreath is a fun way to transform coffee filters, paper plates, and ribbons into a work of art. Hang your finished wreath on an interior door, a wall, or a fridge to admire all season.

Looking to decorate a Christmas tree? Try making a melted crayon ornament.  This project uses old, broken, and short crayons to create a beautiful ornament in no time at all!

Salt Dough Ornaments are another great way to liven up the branches of your tree. Using things you already have at home, these ornaments are an inexpensive way to unleash your imagination.

SENSORY PLAY:
Santa slime is a fun way to stimulate the senses; however, it makes a cute decoration when not being used. This slime is exciting to keep for yourself or to give away to a friend.

If slime is not your thing, try Christmas playdough. This recipe provides four different playdough varieties – each with a different color and scent! Like the slime, it makes a great gift too!

A sensory bin is a great way for individuals with disabilities to unwind during this sometimes-stressful season. A nativity sensory bin allows you to enjoy the benefits of a sensory bin while learning about the birth of Jesus.

FOOD AND DRINK:
After some time crafting, you are sure to build up an appetite. One healthy option this season is a hummus wreath. Visibly pleasing to the eye, this wreath is also delicious!
You’ve eaten healthy, and it’s time to take care of that sweet tooth. Or, skip healthy altogether and go straight for this yummy chocolate peppermint Chex Mix.  A great way to welcome Christmas, this mix incorporates candy canes into the mix!
Of course, no meal is complete without something to drink. Try making these melting snowmen floats. Adding the ice cream after the soda, along with brown candies, turns a traditional float into a snowman melting on a warm day.

Love. Learn. Worship.
