Tips for a Healthy Heart

Take care of your heart! The heart is the center of the body, pumping blood, delivering oxygen to the cells, and removing waste. The Cleveland Clinic refers to it as a “powerhouse organ.” However, diseases impact the function of this powerful vessel. Some examples include:

● Arrhythmia – an unsteady heartbeat.
● Atherosclerosis – a buildup of plaques consisting of fat, cholesterol, and calcium on the artery walls.
● Coronary Heart Disease – when the coronary arteries become blocked because of plaque, causing a restriction of blood flow.

Habits for Healing
There is not a one size fit all solution to healing. For example, there are some heart conditions that occur at birth and require specialized care. However, there are habits that everyone can adapt to reduce the risk of disease.

Eat Healthy! A healthy diet seems like a small task that is hard to follow, but it’s important. Fillup on fruits, vegetables, lean meat, and low sugar. That’s right, slow down on the sweets. Spare your heart!

Exercise! You don’t have to run a marathon, be an Olympic athlete, or work out seven days a week to stay healthy. The American Heart Association recommends approximately two hours of moderate-intensity exercise per week. Take that walk!

Stay Aware! Learn warning signs for a heart attack and stroke. You may save a life!

The heart is a vital organ; through oxygen and blood, it brings life to our bodies. The word “heart” has other meanings; it is the core of who we are. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as “one’s most innermost character, feelings, or inclinations.” Consistency breeds character.

Created By Love “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13.
God crafted the core of who we are. So, what do we do when life hits and hurts our hearts?

Fear, anger, and hopelessness harden our hearts. Forgiveness, faith, and fellowship are the remedies to fix the hurt. Release the offense, trust in God, and join in community with others.

We value community at Echoing Hills. We provide an inclusive, loving environment for staff members and the individuals we serve, fostering a culture where relationships can thrive.
