2021 – The Year of Hope!

Hope is the desire for something to happen. It is rooted in optimism and is the longing for the best outcome possible.

The past year has shown us hope is crucial and needed more than ever before. It can be hard to find and hold on to this notion when times are tough; however, this is when we need it the most.
Here are some ideas on ways to find hope when it can be tough to find it on your own.

Turn to God!

Pray, read the bible, or attend a church service (this can be done in-person or virtually). You could also call a friend, or several, for bible study. Talk about your faith, your struggles, and work to find hope together.

At Echoing Hills, we start every morning with a devotional and prayer. It is a great way to start the day together, to lift praise and prayers to God, and to help us find light amidst any darkness that may be around us.

Surround Yourself with Positive People

We have heard the saying that negativity breeds negativity; however, the reverse is also true.

Positive people have a way of bringing out positivity in others. Be around those who look for the good in individuals and situations. When looking for the good, even in times of difficulty, goodness has a way of finding you. Embrace Self Care!

What brings you joy? Maybe it is reading a book, volunteering, cooking, or taking a hot bath. Whatever it is, continue to do that. These moments bring you happiness, which can help expand hope.

While you are at it, try something new. One suggestion is mindfulness. Mindfulness has many benefits, including increased happiness and empathy and a reduction in stress and anxiety. Positive Psychology has an article with many great mindfulness activities and exercises to try!

Perform Random Acts of Kindness.Doing something kind for someone else increases our happiness and has a way of returning to us. Knowing that we are spreading joy can increase our hope.
The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation provides some great ideas for acts you can do!

Where 2020 was the year for fear, uncertainty, and anxiety for so many, we know 2021 can be the year of peace, joy, and love. It is up to all of us to be the light, to let our actions and words inspire hope in others and ourselves.

Love. Learn. Worship.
