Echoing Hills and COVID – Change and Hope

Echoing Hills has not been immune to the effects of COVID-19.

The virus caused illness and forced us to make adjustments to adapt to the new normal. There were times we got discouraged. Through prayer, however, we were able to move forward with hope.

Individuals we serve and team members alike became sick. Many recovered; however, some did not. We attended funerals with families and felt hope in the memories and stories shared. Hope in knowing that the individuals we love are with the Lord. They are free of the restraints from this earthly world – walking, talking, and breathing easy.

The virus had an impact on our programs and services. We had to postpone, and in some cases cancel, activities many rely on. Activities like our summer camp through Camp Echoing Hills, in-person classes at echoingU, traditional day programming through echoingCONNECTIONS, and outings for individuals in Community Living.

We found hope, however, in how we adapted. We found hope in knowing that we could still make an impact in different ways.

Our “A Day at Camp” program allowed small groups to visit and experience a mini-camp experience for a few hours. echoingU launched virtual learning in which individuals were able to still participate in the learning process without missing a beat.

echoingCONNECTIONS took steps to create a safe space for small groups of individuals to partake in all the program offers. Community Living had organizations in their communities step forward to provide individuals safe, private outings.

The year had many challenges, but we ended with a high, the opportunity to get the COVID-19 vaccine. A shot of hope. Our chance to begin the steps to return to what we consider normal – the ability to be close to one another, to hug someone, to hold each other’s hands, and to smile and talk without a mask.

There were struggles; however, we survived because of our hope. Our belief that we could adapt, that things will return to normal.

Do you find it hard to find hope? Check out our blog, 2021 – The Year of Hope. It is our HOPE it will inspire you to find yours.

Love. Learn. Worship.
