Meet Jeff – The Happy Philosopher

Uplifting, spiritual, and a great conversationalist, that’s Jeff. He enjoys talking with others but is careful never to let his thoughts overshadow those of others. He wants others to think deeply on their own, often sharing information for the receiver to ponder and offer their insight. It is no wonder he is nicknamed “The Philosopher.”

Jeff has lived at Echoing Hills Community Living of Central Ohio since 2012. He shares it is the best place he has ever been.

“We are a family here,” shares Jeff, “We have meals together, participate in activities, and know what each other likes and dislikes.”

A family, indeed. Many individuals look at Jeff as a protective and loving brother, as well as a friend. They turn to him to ask for advice, to pray with them, or to have him read from the Bible for them. Jeff likes to be there for everyone and has even learned a little sign language to communicate with one of his non-verbal friends.

“I enjoy putting others first,” says Jeff, “I want to be positive and constructive. I want others to see God through my words and actions.”

These actions include the interests and talents he shares with others – drawing and playing guitar. The words come from another passion, his love of the written word.

He recently shared a poem with me by Helen Steiner Rice, Where there is Love. He found the poem inspiring because of the happiness he has found at Echoing Hills and the love he has received from his dad and mom throughout the years. Jeff shares he has failed so many times in life. His dad and mom, however, have always been there, supporting him.

“Love is always with you, no matter what,” shares Jeff, “Remember, we all have the compassion to love thy neighbor.”

Talk about a good philosophy!

Where there is Love
Where there is love the heart is light,
Where there is love the day is bright,
Where there is love there is a song
To help when things are going wrong,
Where there is love there is a smile
To make all things seem more worthwhile,
Where there is love there’s quiet peace,
A tranquil place where turmoil’s cease….
Love changes darkness into light
And makes the heart take “wingless flight”-
Oh, blest are they who walk in love….
They also walk with God above,
And when man walks with God again
there shall be Peace on Earth for men.
