Tips for Healthy Eyes
“The eyes are the window to the soul.” – St. Augustine
Build Your Vision
- Eat a well-balanced diet: Make it colorful! Put some fruit and veggies on your plate and add in fish like salmon or tuna. Healthy foods are rich in antioxidants that support eye health.
- Give them a break: rest! Do you spend a lot of time looking at a screen? Follow the “20/20/20” rule. Every twenty minutes, look twenty feet away for twenty seconds.
- Protect them! Okay, so we all know that sunscreen can burn when it gets in your eyes. So…don’t do that. But you can break out those Ray-Bans or other trusted shades that help block out harmful sunbeams.
You want to hear something obvious? Having healthy eyesight makes people, places, and objects easier to see.
Did You Know?
- Every second, your eyes change focus about 50 times.
- An iris, the colored part of the eye, has 256 defining features, whereas a fingerprint only has 40.
- The cornea of a shark is nearly identical to that of a human, and it has even been used in human eye surgery!
The amount of detail within this small organ of the body is astounding! Speaking of detail…have you ever looked at something but needed a second look? Or have you ever seen something and thought it was something else?
Sometimes we all need a second look. Someone to give us a second chance because, maybe you can relate, I’ve never been great at first impressions. Talk about nerve-racking! Everyone wants to feel seen, not just looked at and glanced over.
The One Who Sees You
“So she named the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are El-roi,’ for she said, ‘In this place, have I actually seen the one who sees me?” Genesis 16:13
God saw Hagar in her time of need when she cried out to him. He didn’t look at her, then turned away; he saw and answered her.
At Echoing Hills, we want to extend God’s kindness and make others feel seen so that they may experience the love of Jesus Christ.
