Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Appreciated and Loved

Direct Support Professionals (DSP)
Appreciated and Loved

It’s that time of year again. A week dedicated to acknowledging Direct Support Professionals (DSP) and all of the amazing work they do!

DSPs work with individuals with developmental disabilities. They provide support that enables the person served to live an independent life. If you ask a DSP why they do the work they do, you will more than likely hear the same response. It’s all about the people they serve! And those served value DSPs too.

Gordon, an individual that receives support from Echoing Hills, shares a story he wrote, showing his gratitude for what DSPs do.

Angels on Earth – Gordon’s Story

Once upon a time, there was a resident named Joe. He was taken care of by a DSP named Sue.

If Joe hurt his back, Sue would see to it that he got medication for his back. When Joe’s blood sugar got too low, Sue would get him a snack. If Joe needed help with the television, Sue would help him with the television. Whatever Joe’s need, Sue would meet it.

As the months passed, Joe noticed that Sue always had a bright light around her head. One day, Joe asked her about it. Sue said she was an angel sent down from heaven to help Joe, and the bright light around her head was her halo.

You can argue it all you want, but there is no way that you can convince me that DSPs aren’t angels sent from heaven to help us.
